Default Samsung DV306LEW electric dryer trips breaker

    Model Number: DV306LEW
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 6-10 years

My electric dryer has started tripping the breaker when running a heat cycle. It doesnít trip when on air fluff so it made me think it was the heating assembly. Before changing that, I changed the breaker. The dryer worked for a couple of weeks before starting to trip again. I then replaced the heating assembly and on the first dry attempt it tripped again. I used a multimeter on the power cord both st the outlet and the terminal on the dryer and that all seems fine. I have a clamp on meter which was showing about 26 amps on both lines going to the breaker. However this would drop close to zero or only a few amps at times. Iím assuming this was when the heating coil wasnít running?

Any help or advice is appreciated. The dryer is about 10 years old so I have no problem replacing it. I just donít want to replace it only to find out it wasnít the dryer.

    Thanks!

If I'm following you correctly, on timed dry (about 40 minutes) and air fluff or no heat selected the dryer runs normally and will shut off. If you change the selector to heat the breaker trips immediately. Is that correct?? If it is, disconnect the blue wire from the heater relay on the main control board (tape it off if necessary) and start the machine on timed dry high heat and see if the breaker trips.

Thanks for the response. I had the dryer working for awhile and then it just recently started to trip again. I am trying to get it to trip with an amp meter connected to see how much it's pulling. So far it just tripped on the one wire while only pulling 27 amps. It's connected on its own circuit on a two pole 30A breaker. Now I'm running it again with the amp meter on the other wire to see if it trips again under 30A. I read if it does, then it likely isn't the dryer causing an issue but something electrically as the breaker is tripping without overload.

Yes, the dryer does not trip immediately. When it does trip, it trips after heating for a certain period of time or will complete the full cycle. It has not tripped immediately in any circumstance.

Shouldn't be heating at all so there a short to ground in the element or one of the element wires.
