Default No lights - No Power IKEA Dishwasher IUD9500WX2 Whirlpool?

    Model Number: IUD9500WX2
    Brand: other
    Age: 6-10 years

    Hello!

Based on reading here and other sources across the internet I believe my Mom's dishwasher blew the thermal fuse. An IKEA Dishwasher model IUD9500WX2.

The symptom is no lights on the controls located on the top of the door. There is also no response when pressing them. Normally when the door is opened pressing the start button causes the lights to turn on under the respective cycles and it starts once you close the door in <3 seconds.

After checking the breaker, (not tripped) it seems most likely this is the thermal fuse. I have a hard time replacing a thermal fuse without knowing what caused the fault/overheating? I think I read somewhere these just fail overtime, is that accurate? Also, does all the power supplying the dishwasher go through this fuse? Heating element, pump motor, drain motor?? I would think it would be wise to at least check continuity/resistance on these motors. Maybe also the control board??

Does anyone know what the typical resistance readings are for drain motor, pump motor, heating element? (Obviously, if there is an open it's self explanatory.)

    Much thanks for any assistance!

    -Anthony

It wears out more often than high current or high temperature wears it out. Actually that's what wears it out. The constant heating and cooling of the bi-metal wears it out. I understand what you're asking, if a component failed or is failing and that's what caused it to go. That rarely happens believe it or not. It's been updated to a more HD thermostat and comes with new wires. Be sure to use them. The tech sheet located behind the lower toe plate will have the resistance values for the components and voltage/amp values.

Thanks Rick! As I suspected, these are clearly different from a dryer's thermal fuse, as an example. Appreciate your time and info. And I forgot about the tech sheet... appreciate that reminder!
