Default FGHC2331PF Frigidaire Gallery Ice Maker Inlet Freezing Over

    Model Number: FGHC2331PF
    Brand: Frigidaire
    Age: 1-5 years

We have a Frigidaire FGHC2331PF (Serial # 4A64419697) Gallery refrigerator that is ~1.5-2 years old - we're not exactly sure since it was new to the house, but the house had been vacant for ~ 1 year before we purchased it and moved in.

About 6 months after moving in to our home last April the ice maker in the fridge stopped making ice. After some troubleshooting I found that the inlet tube was frozen over. After de-thawing it the ice maker worked fine for several months. Then this issue happened again. Repeated the same solution, and it was again fine for a few months. However the period of time during which it will make ice before freezing over has gone down after every fix.

We're at the point now where it freezes over within a few days of de-thawing it.

I came across this post on this forum describing essentially the same thing, but for a different model of Frigidaire fridge. The fix apparently ended up just a new water kit tube, at the recommendation Jake who found a service bulletin for the OP's fridge in that thread.

Just curious 1. where I can look to see if a similar bulletin exists for our fridge and 2. what other fixes there might be. The other thing suggested is that it might be the water inlet valve, but like in the other thread the ice maker seems to make ice fine once the little inlet tube has been de-thawed.

    Thanks

The problem is the water valve. It's not closing properly and a small amount of water, one drop at a time rolls down to the end of the fill tube and freezes before it has a chance to fall off and that stops the next drop and so on and so on.

Thanks. That's what I had read other places but just wanted to confirm.
What is the lifetime of this part? This seems to be a fairly common issue.

Depends on usage and water but 3-8 years in normal. Hard water or or high mineral content seem to wipe them out on the low end.
