My 11 year old Kenmore Elite fridge model 795.71602 suddenly stopped cooling/freezing one day. I used an internet based repair service, as they were the only folks who could come quickly.
The technician restored complete function by simply recharging the coolant. He could not find any observable leak.
He said that an additive in the coolant would seal any small leak.
He charged me $420 for this repair.
I am concerned that this is just a temporary fix, that it will likely still leak, and that it might be time to replace this unit.
Is it standard procedure to simply recharge a fridge, and not identify and fix the source of the leak?
Thanks!!
