Brand
Sears Kenmore
Age
Less than 1 year
So the brand I have is a Kenmore Elite 795.74023, it's actually manufactured by LG and sold under Sears Kenmore.

My problem is the in door ice maker leaks water from behind the ice tray on the bottom.

Watch the video, I have documented my problem and I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it.

Without a model number, we're dead in the water. Read it from the tag on the machine.

Sounds like the fill tube is out of position. Take the back panel behind the icemaker off to check.

Push the test switch on the bottom of the ice maker for 3 seconds. You may need to hold the door switch in.

Rick , I disassembled the entire ice maker and it was a wall of ice behind it. The fill tube appears to be in the correct position. I also disassembled the compartment that housed the 2nd fill valve that fills the icemaker and feeds the drinking water. I tested both and they appear to test out. My only other thought is that , could there be buildup inside the valve not allowing it to close in the allotted time , hence Water running over the fill dam? I couldn’t find a button on the icemaker to test it so I reassembled it and asked the owner to keep and eye on it and report. That’s where I am today. Saturday Jan 27
Thanks for all the help!

I have a similar problem.

Kenmore Elite / LG
Model: 795.74025412

Water/ice builds up around the ice bin. Seems to start on the right side and then eventually fills the entire bottom panel and then leaks water/ice into the rubber seal of the ice maker panel door.

I think it only happens when the ice maker is on. We went a day of still using the door water (but no ice) and there didn't seem to be any ice build up. However the next day we turned on the ice maker again and ice was built up within several hours. Within a few days there is tons of ice all around the bottom and sides of the removable ice bin.

Unlike the YouTube video in the OP, I'm not sure how to get the water to run while the compartment is open to isolate exactly where the water is coming from. Suggestions for testing this? Someone said "Push the test switch on the bottom of the ice maker for 3 seconds. You may need to hold the door switch in." but I don't see any test switch. Where is it?

It's about 1.5 years old so I believe out of warranty :(

The problem is either the water valve sticking open or the ice maker is leaking. Unfortunately I don't have a tech sheet for that model. If there's no power or fill switch on the ice maker you'll need to locate your tech sheet. It should tell you how to force cycle the ice maker. Look under the top hinge covers and behind the lower grill.

On the back of the fridge, I removed the lower panel, and the only other easily accessible panel. I didn't see any papers/documentation inside there. I also looked around the top hinge covers and removed one and there aren't any papers hiding there either (just a bunch of wires).

Any other ideas?

Every new appliance comes with a tech sheet. The tech sheet has the wiring diagram and troubleshooting steps. You want to watch the ice maker fill with water so you can see where the leak is coming from. Since you can't locate your tech sheet the only other thing I can think of is to turn the ice maker off for a day. When you turn it back on it should go into a harvest cycle. The fill cycle is at the end of the harvest cycle.

Had this same problem with water leaking down from right edge of ice maker behind and below cube holder. Had a repairman fix it and watched what he did.

Diagnosis was a combination of misaligned filler tube and hard water deposits on filler opening making it spray wider than before.

Disassembled by deicing with steamer and unscrewing the darker two screws on either side of ice drop hole at bottom of ice maker after taking out ice holder and one screw in the middle just under the ice maker.

Whole interior unit pulled out with only a cable harness plug at top to disconnect. He tweaked the filler tube to center it and then scraped off the calcium deposits. Dried thing out then put things back in place.

Note the cycle button is actually a small hole on the flat surface facing you to the left of the cube tray. Repair guy pushed a small wire into the hole for a few seconds to force a fill cycle. Note you want to have trays empty before doing this.

Ron,
You nailed it. Thanks for paying attention to your repair man. I do the same thing when I can. The hardest part was realizing that I needed to reach under and behind the removed wall to disconnect the harness. Trying to reach around the top of the wall to grab the harness connector was impossible since the harness wires were so short. It came off easy and was just as easy to hook back up. I didn't realign the water nozzle but there it was... all that calcium build-up. It took me quite a while to defrost all the ice behind the removed wall. The gear box and a wire to it were completely encased in ice. I took out the two screws holding it in just to loosen up the ice all around it. The steamer did the trick. Thanks for the info. I'm sure you saved me a nice service call fee.

Still couldn’t figure out how to get wire harness clip disconnected after removing screws to detach wall behind ice maker.

795.74023.411-3/31/2020---Had the same problem for about 3-months..water freezing behind, around and bottom of the ice bin. To activate ice maker with door open, I used a paper clip and pushed through the small hole on the left-hand side of the ice maker...hold a few seconds the ice maker will force the cycle. I noticed a slight spray..just slight is all it takes to throw water where it should not be going and that was behind the ice bin. Turn off ice maker, removed complete housing compartment with ice maker...ice was completely covered behind the housing and bottom. Thawed out with hairdryer, removed all ice from compartment...and this is important scrap off the filler nozzle as calcium build up can and will cause the abnormal spay and reinstall compartment and ice maker. Its been 3-days and no leakage and can actually remove ice bin easily with no ice build-up.

Note: My thoughts on reason for water leakage/spray in the compartment
1) As ice build-up behind the compartment and it was substantial, it could have been pushing out the upper RH side of the compartment, thus when the water cycle came some of the water was actually going behind the compartment...not sure but seem reasonable since ice does expand when frozen.
2) water filler nozzle was so calcified it was spray rather than filling normally...
