Hey guys,

We have a Kenmore model 970-600762 electric range (12 years old) where the oven just conked out totally with no warning. Stove top and clock still works fine. We replaced an element 5 years ago, but when that happened, only one of the two was not working. This time it's just not turning on. Can anybody provide some troubleshooting before I call a tech over?

So far I've unplugged for 10mins. I was going to remove the back panel and look for a reset button. I'm guessing it's something like a fuse or thermal sensor? If it were the main circuit board, would that not affect the stove top as well?

Any help, or any suggestions on what I could try, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

PS. I believe this is a Frigidaire made Kenmore based on some images I've seen online of similar appearance.

No, The EOC only controls the oven functions. I couldn't get anything to come up with that model number. It could be the area you're in or it could be Sears is gone from Canada and almost gone in the US. However, Frigidaire used the same style EOC across models. Look on the EOC for L1 and L2-IN and check for 220 VAC. This is supply voltage. Set the oven to BAKE or BROIL and check for 220 VAC across BAKE or BROIL and L2-OUT. Some Frigidaire machines have a high limit thermostat on the back of the machine. There's a red reset button in the center. Push it all the way down and check it for continuity.

So after leaving the circuit breaker off all night. We tried the broil setting this morning, and it worked instantly with the top element. Even though there's no physical blistering or cut in the bottom element, does that pretty much isolate the issue to being the element itself on the bottom? I had a multimeter, but I have no idea where I stored it. Might need to buy a new one.

If you don't have a meter it's just guessing.

No, if the element is bad it won't turn on. If the control isn't sending voltage to the element it won't turn on. That's what you need a meter for. Keep in mind I have no way to look it up. I'm assuming it's a standard range with similar controls. I don't know where you can get the parts. Look for a number on the old part or take a picture of the element I'll try to match it.
