4 year old Amana fridge started freezing food in refrigerator compartment. I’ve changed the fridge thermistor and the control board. Didn’t help. I’ve checked the resistance of the freezer thermistor 2300 ohms at room temperature 8500 ohms in ice water. There is no sheet giving thermistor values with this fridge, I’ve looked for it. However, yesterday when I rechecked the freezer thermistor ( at room temperature) it started at about 2400 ohms, I held the meter in it for about 4 minutes…. Resistance climbed to 3600 ohms. Seems weird. I’ve got quite a lot into repairs on this and have solved nothing…. What’s the thoughts? Will a new freezer thermistor solve this?

I couldn't find official data for that thermister either but I believe the resistances listed below pertain to it.

freezer thermistor 2300 ohms at room temperature

2300 = 83-84 deg. F

8500 ohms in ice water.

8500 = 33-34 deg. F.

I rechecked the freezer thermistor ( at room temperature) it started at about 2400 ohms, I held the meter in it for about 4 minutes…. Resistance climbed to 3600 ohms. Seems weird.

Were you (or anything) touching it to change its temperature?

2400 = 81-82 deg. F.

3600 = 65-66 deg. F.

If it is not maintaining a consistent resistance when its temperature isn't changing, the thermistor would be suspect and might be worth trying a replacement.

I was careful not to touch it or move it while the meter was hooked up. Temperature should have remained constant.
I also learned that I cannot get it to go into diagnostics mode.
Hers a picture of what I saw when I took the back of the freezer compartment off

I don't know how it could get too cold like that. That picture shows you have a refrigeration system problem which will eventually (very soon!) not cool at all. You will need a trained refrigeration system technician to look into it further.

There is nothing further you can do for it.

Thanks Dan. I checked the thermistor again in what is definitely a controlled 62 F. It does hold at 3600. I think at hadn’t given it time to stabilize temperature when I checked it before.
So, if the freezer thermistor is good, the fridge thermistor is new, the control board is new….
What else is there to check?

Thank you Dan. That’s kind of where I was at, though this type of fridge is all new to me! I’ve worked with thermostats and dampers… but this model has none of that!
Much appreciated!!

Nothing. As I said, the picture shows you have a refrigeration system problem which will eventually not cool at all. You will need a trained refrigeration system technician to look into it further.
