Hi All

I have a gas water heater Serial#1542j009433. It's about 2.5 years old and my questions are related to the replacing the anode.

1. What is the usual replacement frequency of this part, considering I have a water softener for the home?
2. The replacement part for my model is 100210065. I can't seem to locate it. I've found the one ending in 64 that one looks a bit shorter (23" vs. 36") than mine.
3. Looks like this part is incorporated into the outlet connection. How do I remove this? Do I use channel locks or vise grips to turn the protruding nipple on top of the tank?

Thanks!

Thanks Jake! How would you know it needed replacing? What are the warning signs?

I've only replaced one in my 32 years of my appliance repair career and that's when I was working for Sears in Oregon back in 2003 and the reason for replacing that one was the water smelt like rotten eggs on the hot water side of the customers faucets.
