GE Dehumidifier
Model APEH70LWQ1
Serial Number HL047041Q
Bought 10/14/2008

Dehumidifier has stopped "extracting"water. Fan Works. Humidistat Works. Compressor runs but gets very hot to touch after about 15 minutes and compressor shuts off. Coils do not get cold except of for "frost" on one portion of one copper tube. (see attached picture). I cleaned the coils using compressed air. There was some dirt, but not much.

Symptoms would indicate that the unit has lost almost all of the refrigerant which means there is probably a leak somewhere. If that is the case, then I assume the unit is not worth trying to fix.

Question: Other than loss of refrigerant, are there any replaceable parts that would cause the coils not to cool? Any additional troubleshooting that I can do?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Robert

Only a defective compressor or lack of refrigerant could cause incomplete refrigeration.
