best and/or most efficient A/C window units

I'm moving from an apt with central air to one with no central air, so I'm in the market for window units, but I have no clue about them.

Any advice on brands regarding efficiency, price, and noise level?

Whirlpool and Frigidaire Window A/C's are good.

A local Sears Store has good information about them as far as facts and figures, even if you don't buy it their, they are happy to show you the guides.
