So, we just recently bought a brand new GE Café Refrigerator, model CYE22UP3MD1 which is a side by side with freezer on bottom. We put the unit into service around March 1, 2020 and the fridge and freezer are quite full due to the current Corvid-19 pandemic. We do our best to keep the built-in thermometers clear. We have noticed on random occasions that the fridge swings 15-18 degrees and the freezer temps swing as much as 37 degrees. For example, a few weeks ago, the temp of the fridge was set to 38 and we woke up in the morning to frozen eggs, milk, yogurt, etc. The fridge said the temp was set at 38 and that the actual temp was 38. Clearly not as stuff was frozen. So, we put thermometers in the fridge and freezer to monitor and see what might be going on. The fridge seems to swing randomly from about 28 - 45 degrees while the set temp is 38 and the fridge says the actual temp is 38 when these swings are happening. The freezer swings from -10 to 27 degrees while being set at 0 and the freezer saying the actual temp is 0 during these swings.

So, can anyone tell me what might be going on or is this considered a defrost cycle? I understand from doing some searching that there are defrost cycles, but how often do they happen and how large are swings supposed to be?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

It could be a faulty Fresh Food Sensor.

Since its under warranty contact GE at 1-800-432-2737 to come out and fix it for you for free.

Defrost cycles happen between 2- 3 times a day, but that's to much of a temperature swing to be a defrost issue.
