The element has burned out on my Thermador electric oven. Thermador no longer makes or carries the part, and I cannot find it anywhere online, after months of searching.

My question is this: can I substitute another element of the same or slightly lesser wattage? It is either that or throw away a $4,000.00 oven. I can drill a few additional holes for supports if needed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You don't mention which element. The bottom element (bake element) is still available. I would buy it even if you don't need it because it will go sooner or later.

The upper element (broil element) is discontinued but I may have a source for a new one. I will check into it if you are interested.
To answer your question. Yes you can substitute the element with another style. You may have to drill holes. Just make sure the dimensions are similar . The depth is very important. If the depth is too large you won't be able to close the door. Try to find an element that is similar in wattage to yours. The wattage should be stamped on the element. The replacement should be within about 5 to 10 percent of the original wattage. Also make sure the terminals on the replacement element do not come in contact with the chassis (frame) of the oven. You risk blowing any electronics if the element shorts to ground.

Thank you! That is very good to hear. Yes, it actually a double wall oven, and the broil element burned out on both. The upper oven popped the first time my wife tried to do a self-clean run, so we used only the lower oven, then that one went out. One lower element is out as well in one of the ovens. I have no idea why so many are burning out. They are very expensive to replace. If I can find a cheaper whirlpool, etc., around the same wattage, for around $30.00 instead of $100.00, I will start using those. If you have a source for the broiler element, please let me know.

Thanks!

Also, would you happen to be able to find out the wattage of the elements in that oven? Since they are both blown, I cannot check with an ohmometer. Thermador tech doesn't seem to know much. Thanks.

I have not been able to find the broil element new but if you google the part number you can find plenty of them in used condition for sale.

Here is the part number 00367647
