The water pump on my Criterion CTW41N1AW (I think it is made by Whirlpool) clothes washer died. I have a new one coming today but wanted to ask a question. When I took the old original one off along with the bolts that part had no gasket that I could see and it looked like it was sealed on with a yellow adhesive. The new part I purchased to replace it looks like it is the same one but the new one has a black gasket like material where it joins the tub. They also had it smeared on the connection to the drain pipe. Here is what I bought

Do I need to have some kind of adhesive to put this back together or will that part be fine without the adhesive?

Lastly, it looks like to me that the old motor is hard wired. I haven't seen the new one yet but the photos look like they just have a plug of some kind. Any idea what I do there?

No it is not. It appears to be made by Midea but a similar washer model may be also sold under the GE/Haier brand name. I found part numbers for its proper pump either # 11001011000071 or WH11X34742.

Lots of pumps look the same. Whether you can make that Whirlpool pump fit and work I have no idea.

Usually the hoses/connectors are held to the pump with hose clamps only, no adhesive. The factory might have originally used additional adhesive to help the connections remain intact during shipping. I do not know if Midea recommends an adhesive in addition to hose clamps during replacement.

The correct replacement pump comes with a wire harness with connector on the end. If you're going to try to use that Whirlpool pump on it someone will have to cut the wires and then put wire terminals on the wires to attach to the Whirlpool pump.
