• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

I have a GE Cafe over range microwave model #CVM517P3MD1. It is out of warranty even though only actually installed for several months. It has been working fine until I boiled eggs for 35 minutes on the cook top with the vent fan on medium. There did develop lots of steam on the front of the microwave during this. Then none of the button would function.

I turned off the circuit breaker for 15 seconds, it seemed to reset I could adjust the clock with the dial but pushing the dial button it did nothing and no other buttons would work. After letting it sit for about a half hour all the buttons would work except the vent fan, after another half hour everything is working ok. It seems that the steam got into the control panel and shut it down, but this is supposed to be a range fan too it should not do that?
