I have GE Dryer (DBVH512EFWW) that intermittently will not engage the tumble motor -- usually after a few loads have been run. It appears to be some kind of overheating but I'm not clear how to resolve it.

When this last occurred, I entered diagnostic mode and ran all diagnostics as per the service manual
(https://www.applianceblog.com/manuals/31-9136_GEFDryer.pdf)
The results were as follows:
t01 = 02
t02 = E00
t03 = 045
t04 = EPP
t05 = all LEDs light
t06 = beep
t07 = Drum does not rotate, 073 temperature displayed
t08 = Drum does not rotate, 123 temperature displayed
t09 = 2.00
t10 = HI

If I run through diagnostics when the dryer is not hot, the drum rotates during t07 & t08 and it reports much lower temperatures.

I have replaced the thermostat, but this did not resolve the problem.

Hi,

When the dryer shuts off can you immediately start it again? Or do you have to wait till it cools down?

Have you cleaned out your exhaust vent and gone outside to clean it out there too where it exits your house?

I have to wait until it cools down.

Exhaust was the first thing I checked. Looks clear from both ends. Also the t10 diagnostics claims to test exhaust and it passed.

Ok,

Your missing a digit between the "F" and the "W".

Here's the results I get:
DBVH512EF0WW
DBVH512EF1WW
DBVH512EF2WW
DBVH512EF3WW
DBVH512EF4WW

Usually when the motor is on its last legs it will do what's yours is doing. When the motor shuts off and its extremely hot to the touch, that's a sure sign its going bad.

Without that missing digit we don't know what motor yours takes.

Thanks -- that cost less than I was expecting.

I bought the dryer in 2008 and it gets heavy use. I've read that dryers are expected to last 12 years.

Would you recommend replacing the motor or purchasing a new dyer?

How many family members are living in your house?

How often do you use the dryer? Daily? Or a couple times a week?

Seven people are using this dryer. It runs constantly on the weekend and probably most days of the week.

Ok, in that case its best to save the repair money and get a new dryer.

I recommend Whirlpool and Maytag.

I decided the new dryer was too expensive so we went ahead and replaced the motor with the model you linked to. Unfortunately, the problem is still there. The dryer stops working after its been run long enough to get warm.

Any other suggestions on what the problem might be?

That's very strange, that should of fixed it.

Well, the only other part it can be is the main control board:
WE4M488 Main Pwr Board Asm

You can return the motor for a full refund, less shipping.

To close out this thread, I am happy to report the Dryer is now fixed.

After a lot of trial and error, ultimately we found we needed to replace the Dryer Control Board (Part # WE4M488).
