FIXED DFE29JMDCES Freezer Cold, but fridge not cooling - GE Adora Slate French Door

Have a GE Adora French Door bottom freezer.
Freezer is working fine at -2, but fridge is only at 61. The bottom deli tray drawer is freezing food.
I think it may be the fan, but I have no idea where it is in this unit to check it. Also, wondering if I would need to run a software update if I did switch it out.
Any ideas?

Fixed and link to video

Thanks Jake
This part fixed it. Ordered from Repair Clinic and had the part the next day.
The repair took less than 30 minutes and the software update took about 15 minutes.

Also, have a link to YouTube video with details on how to access and replace the fan in this fridge:

How to replace evaporator fan in GE french-door refrigerator - ***non working link***.

Having the exact same issue on GE Refrigerator GFE29HSDISS. It currently shows 0F for the Freezer and 65F for the Refrigerator portion and the lower drawer is running cool. Top of the refrigerator not cold at all.

I went ahead an ordered the Evaporator Fan Motor WR60X26866 kit.

I'm not qualified to diagnose that this is the correct fix. I hope its not a motherboard issue and I don't see any other odd signs such as the eletronic controls not working, lights out, etc. When I exposed the coils the top was frosted over more than the bottom. Any thoughts on this? I inspected the evaporator fan and it looks brand new, spins freely. Don't know how to test it. It is AVC model DAZB0838RCM. I assume I would need the software update but I'm not sure why.

Yes,

That is mostly likely the issue with yours too, so its good you ordered that same kit.

Here's our main thread on this issue: FIXED: GE GNE26GSDSS Freezer works - fridge not cooling

And you can see all the other members that this same kit has fixed theirs.

And in post #9 bigbuck posted the installation guide.

I know of no way to test it, but I can pretty much guarantee it will fix yours too.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply, Jake! Will report back as soon as part comes in and installed.

I received the fan today but the software update module was missing from the package. I plugged in the fan and it does not spin. Does the fan replacement require the update to work? Would it damage the fan to plug it in without the update?

edit: I put the fan in anyway and I did see it spin up so that is a good sign. Going to have to forego the software update for now and see if this refrigerator is cooling again unless that is a problem.

So after 2 years this happened to me again, upgraded fan and firmware. Since I have the service plan I called sears to fix. The tech came out and ordered the part since he didn't have on truck, Back ordered til August. WTH..

I guess this problem is hitting GE hard now if they can't keep these things in stock. Anyone else getting a failure a second time?

I ordered one and got it up and running til the tech comes back out.. If he ever comes..

Wait, don't order another one, "bigbuck" our other tech here just sent us a updated bulletin for this, there is another part that came out which does NOT need software or firmware.

Look here at the bulletin: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y3uzvc78yvjbc54/REF03-18%20%20GE%20Refrigerator%20Bulletin%20Fresh%20Food%20Evaporator%20Fan%20Contributing%20to%20Warm%20Temperatures.pdf?dl=0

This is the part that they said to replace in that service bulletin: --->WR60X29099

Nevermind, your model number is not on that list in that updated bulletin.

Tech just left.. Since it was working didn't want to mess with it so he left me the new fan I got and this part as well..

LINK->WR49X26666 Ff Fan Moisture Kit

So I have plenty of backups for future use now.. He said the above part is what he installs prolly because its more labor and costly.. ;)

Wanted to say thanks to Jake and others for sharing the Service Bulletin REF03-18 and the fan install video. I noticed last night that the fresh food compartment of my GFE29HSDISS fridge was warmer than usual, while the freezer appears to be fine. However, the display on the fridge is still indicating that the fresh food compartment is below 40 degrees, even though an IR temp gun shows that is not the case in many areas of the fridge.

I went ahead and ordered the part recommended in REF03-18 WR60X29099. If other general troubleshooting measures do not stablize the temperatures I will replace the fan.

Yes, many folks have found that replacing the refrigerator evaporator fan motor has fixed it.

This is the newer one GE tells you to use WR60X29099 instead of the older one with the software update.

Let us know how it goes with yours.:)
