Got a GE dishwasher GDT655SMJ2ES that is 18 months old and it is acting dead. No lights on control panel. I've verified that there is power at the junction box of the unit (black to white wires show 117 v). Have tried holding the Cycle Select and Start button for 5 seconds or more and still no response.

Any suggestions on how to diagnose further? Thanks!

Hi,

You posted the model number of a GE Dryer, we would need the GE dishwasher model number to help you.:)

The model number tag is located inside the door on the tub frame.

Thanks!

Try this: Press the Select Cycle and Start buttons at the same time for Five (5) seconds. If the control responds with LED’s or Display coming on, The CSM is tripped.

Ok,

Next, Check your machine control board Service LED, Tell us how many times its flashing in a row.

To view the machine control board Service LED, remove the lower access panel of your dishwasher.

--->Here's the machine control board for your model: WD21X24799 Machine Control

Here's the video that show you how to remove the cover to access the main control board, and Service LED on it: Main control board access video

Ok,

The tech. data sheet says this: Flashing rapidly (4x per second) or STEADY ON---->Software error. Replace machine control board.

Order and replace the machine control board I posted the link to above and you should be back in business.:)

That's odd, the link above worked great for me, yes that is the link you posted to the machine control board.

Thanks again Jake. Yes, the link is good, my computer just wants to be picky and make me hold down "control" when I click on it and I keep forgetting that.....

Got the new board and installed it. The green LED on it is also steady on. The dishwasher display is still dark and unresponsive.

What's next? Thanks.

This was helpful. Same DW and same problem. I went looking for the control board LED and the LED was dead. I unplugged the circuit board and plugged it all back in and the DW works great. For the past few months, leading up to today, the display has blanked in and out, the unit randomly beeps and, in general, the unit was acting electrically “weird” at the user control panel / buttons.

Could have been a loose connection at the control board, but I doubt it. Everything was tight when I took it apart.

So, I’m leaning towards the board being faulty. Even though it’s running now I worry it’s on its “last legs”. I’m thinking of buying a board to just have on hand, so when it fails I’m not without a DW for days.

Thoughts from the moderators?

Hi Jack,

Earlier this year I went on a service call that a local customer was having this same problem, and I ordered the UI Board and installed it and it fixed it.:)

So you will need to replace the UI Board: WD21X23462 Kit Svc Ui Top Logic

The new UI Board comes with instructions to set the personality jumpers per the model number of the dishwasher, which you must do or it will not work.:)

Since this thread from last year, we have come to find out the STATUS LED on the main control board STEADY ON means the UI Board is the problem.

Excellent Jack, glad you found the video, keep us posted.

Here's the service manual instructions for your exact model:

You will need to remove the whole door, then separate the door, then remove the front control console, to replace the UI Board.

Here's the service manual for your model: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1M-G9W3HiaYnihdB5Cy-jfSPoVf8DZ7j7

Page 28 Door Removal
Page 30 Separate Door
Page 31 Front Control Console Removal

NOTE--->When replacing UI control boards, the new UI Board MUST be configured as per the instructions included with the replacement. If the personality is not set by using the 4 jumpers, the buttons, LED’s or cycles will not function properly.
