Hello all. Taking a guess at the age since I inherited this unit with the house. Serial number is F10503107. I noticed the other day that when opening the door it falls down rather quickly rather than slowly. Just wondering if this is a sign that the springs/hinges are going bad? I thought it was my imagination until my wife noticed it too. Use to have to push it down to be able to pull out the bottom tray to empty or load it but now the door kind of drops.

Also, how do I find out the age of this unit?

Thanks, Joe

Hi,

Looks like it was manufactured Jan/2011

Definetly check the springs.

Thanks as always Jeff. I usually don't play with any water connections so I may pass on doing this myself. So when both springs fail the door just falls open? Is there any issue with waiting until that happens? Are the springs just more of a nicety than necessity? I'm assuming that just one spring is busted as it doesn't fall flat when opened.

Sometimes the door can fall when just one is broken....will fall for sure when both are broken.

Door can/could open on it's own and trip someone. If the door is falling with a crash, yes it can damage the door and hinges.

Thanks again Jeff. Since the parts are close to $100 for both sets of springs and bushings and labor would be close to $200 and it's close to 8 years old, I may just forgo this until it breaks and replace it.
