my Samsung DW80F800UWS is overfilling.
shows error code oE (which the Samsung manual unhelpfully describes as: Over-level water error Functional error. Close the water supply valve and go to your house circuit breaker panel, set the dishwasher’s circuit breaker switch to off, and then contact an authorized Samsung service center.)

the unit is draining well. forcefully. almost constantly.
when I open the door at any point I can see water flowing in the cavity.

to recap.
cycle starts normally.
after about 2 minutes it drains. and then keeps draining . and keeps filling.
even when the power is cut from the unit, water keeps flowing in, as long as the inlet line is Open.

so what am I looking at here? bad water inlet valve?
its a jazzy unit. (and for once the control panel seems to be working correctly)
this seems like it should be a fairly simple diagnosis and.... hopefully.... fix

gratefuly as always for your help.

Peter

Hi Peter,

On Larry's thread he said the case brake fixed it after he put his original control board back in place:

A/s Assy Ch Set-Case Brake DD82-01373A

Here's your service manual: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1b4U7QUGtsBxRqWn5wJuIcx_c48EbKHDc/view?usp=share_link

Page 38 oE Over level water error

Then page 53 goes into detail about it.

Thanks.
I'll grab one of those breaks.
(there is a LOT of bad - and useless - advice out there for this error. Blow through the Fill hose; clean out fhe sump pump....) Do not listen to them.

But hold on.
possible Problems seem to be:
A) a bad water level sensor (in that case brake) not sending a shutoff signal to a good water intake valve
OR
B) a bad water intake valve ignoring a shutoff signal sent from a good water level sensor.
How would I know which of the two is bad?
Can I know which is is without replacing both parts?

Peter

But I am going to speculate that a water inlet valve is a "dumb" device, Binary. either ON or OFF (or clogged with sand)
so that would shift me back to the water level indicator which would send that ON or OFF signal....

Yes Peter, that is correct.

So the new case brake should hopefully fix it.:)

NEWS FLASH. IT'S THE WATER INLET VALVE

wild (and long) story. (Hey, if you don't find some aspects of appliance repair amusing, then you have better buy new with a warranty)

as noted above my Samsung (DW80F800UWS) failed on an OE (overfull) error.
water just kept pouring in the case break even after the machine started its cycle.

presumed fix was to replace the Case Break.
being a notorious cheapskate instead of dropping $125 or so on this part, I thought I would find a donor Samsung that used the same Case Break part. (There are strangly a number of error coded Samsung DWs for sale for about $35-50 around here. even free for scrap. Probably not a good sign of Samsungs robustness)

My first foray was a semi-failure. I spotted a DW80K7050UG nearby and cheap. and a photo of its Break Case seemed to be the same as mine.
After pickup though I realized that it was slightly differrent (1 fewer electrical connection and one inlet tube was capped off and not used)
BUT I was able to fix its leak and so now it is fully functional.

But, on an appliance parts website for my machine, there was a list of 16 other Samsung DWs that used the same part. (DW80F600UTB, DW80F600UTS, DW80F600UTW, DW80F800UWS, DW80J3020UB, DW80J3020US, DW80J3020UW, DW80K5050UB, DW80K5050UG, DW80K5050US, DW80K5050UW, DW80R5060UG, DW80R5060US, DW80R5061UG, DW80R5061US, DW80R5061UT)

So I tracked down another DW that was in this list (and was also $35. and the seller said was not draining correctly. For $35 I'd take my chances. Plus it had the door springs I needed)

anyway, got it home yesterday, pulled the Case Break and swapped it in and..... OE failure again.
After first being annoyed (at having wasted more time and money), I wondered "what are the odds that two Samsung DW would both have a bad case breaks?" and so I wondered again about the water inlet valve.

So I yanked that donor's water inlet valve, jerry rigged it up to test and to my great pleasurer, the water flow shut off correctly when the machine began.
I ran a second test to ensure it wasn't a fluke.

then I swapped back to the original water valve and it failed.

what's the blue thing on a water inlet valve? a solenoid? why would it fail?

so, my lessons here are if you are getting an OE error on a Samsung it might it might be the case break OR it might be the water valve.
BUT if you can find a donor machine (it is sometimes hard to get sellers to give you the model number) you can get both parts - plus others - for peanuts and be reasonably confident that the parts will be good.

Now, clearly I have too much time on my hands but it still surprises me how many people treat appliances like disposable items, not worth repairing.
DWs at least are so simple and it's so satisfying to fix one.

Good job Peter finding it was the water inlet valve.(y)

Here's the water inlet valve for your model in case others need it too:
Water Valve DD62-00084A

Yes, the solenoid that opens and closes for the water supply to the dishwasher. Usually on the machines I work on the most like Whirlpool, when it goes bad it may not close all the way and keep leaking water into the machine after the dishwasher ends its cycle, or the coil in it can burn out and not open to let water in at all.
