So the tenant set the oven temperature for 350 degrees. She tells me that the oven got super hot, way above 350, so hot that she was concerned there was a danger of fire.

What could cause this to happen?

Incidentally, when I was trying to figure out why the oven would not light (separate thread, new igniter), I did measure the impedance of the temperature probe and found it to be a little outside the allowable range.

[It's a new tenant, and so I did not point out to her that breaking the 500 degree barrier is ideal if you're making pizza.]

Hi,

What could cause this to happen?
We would still check the oven temp sensor, but most times that will not allow the oven to do a run away temp...it will allow the oven to be the wrong temp.

Should ohm at 1000-1100 ohms at room temp.

Most common trouble maker for a run away temp issue...

Oven-Control-Board-316455410-01031088.jpg Oven control board

Sometimes the film/overlay can be reused, but many times it cannot...

Last might be a shorted/melted wire....it is a good idea to check these as sometimes a sharp edge can cut one of the wires.

Problem was the oven control board.

(And after that was fixed, the tenant called to say that the broiler was "missing." Lucky she wan't storing anything flammable in the broiler tray.)
