Indications: Heat cycles on /off normally and clothes dry in usual time when set to timed-dry. Temp knob seems to give proper variation in temps from low to high...so far so good . Timer advances only on timed-dry, completing the cool-down cycle(down to end but not off); does not advance on air-dry or auto-dry at all. Timer does not move to the off position on any cycle...drum turns indefinitely. There is a view window on the back of the timer: Timer motor can be viewed spinning only on the timed cycle. Duct is clean with good air flow.

The resistor on the back of the control panel would be the easiest to test (and cheapest to replace). But would a bad resistor read shorted or open? Can't find the spec on it.

Is there enough info here to eliminate any components?:)

Thanks for the link to the wiring diagram- the resistor was the problem, creating an open circuit- failing to advance the timer to the off positions.

Although replacements are still available from Sears (and at a much inflated prices from repair stores), I found the necessary replacement at a local electronics store for $1.50 . The specs for the power resistor are 15watt/4500ohm.
