My Uncle's upright freezer is no longer freezing or dropping below 27•F. They were alerted to the issue with when taking out ice cream that turned soft and the freezer alarm beeping with a high temp warning.

The condenser fan that's on the bottom and the evaporator fan on top both seem to be working fine and blowing cold air.

There was some frost buildup on the evaporator coils near the top left side and the left side pipes. We used a hairdryer to melt it but left the cover off thinking a technician would be able to come out today. However, the earliest appointment my Uncle can get is next week. Does anyone know what a possible issue could be or how I can troubleshoot the issue?

A few of the YouTube help videos show using a multimeter to pinpoint an issue but I'm not exactly sure on how to use one... Everything else says it might be a sealed system issue?

Attached are the pics of the defrost coils. The frost is much worse today since the cover was not put back on last night.

Ok, defrost the evaporator coil, then put the back cover back in place and give it a couple hours and then take its temperature with a freezer thermometer and let us know the temperature says.

Thank you for replying! I'll see if I can walk my Uncle through this tonight and whether it not it makes a difference.
