compressor not coming on. checked ambient sensor and evaporator sensor with meter both read around 10 ohms. I was able to watch the resistance drop on ambient sensor by rubbing it with my finger. any suggestions on voltage readings I could measure on the control board?

found the start cap...the darn thing is unmarked! does it matter how you plug in one if there are only 2 terminals?

it is a window air conditioner...not a frig lol! but thanks for reply anyway
Even worse.....a/c compressors are often 5 times louder than a refrigerator compressor....and you can't tell if it is running?!?!?

Nope.

compressor not coming on.
Check the control board, check capacitor, overload on the compressor.

How do you "check the control board"? Visual inspection? I see no obvious fried circuits...
There is a diagram of the circuit inside the unit which also shows an overload relay (or something like this) I cannot find this device. There is no thermal shut off that I can find mounted on the compressor. Thanks for the reply!

Power coming in.....any power going out?
No power out to the compressor would indicate a probable bad board.

Show us the diagram.

Could be inside the compressor, checked for any diagrams on the side of the compressor?

update...we have had the unit on since it stopped on Saturday. Just noticed for the first time tonight the compressor kicked on for a little bit with a louder noise than usual. Actually was blowing cold for a bit. one time it buzzed a bit. Afraid that the compressor is shot!

None of that makes for a good compressor :(

Does show an overload....follow the "C" (common) wire from the compressor towards this overload.
If the compressor is having trouble starting or drawing too much current or getting too hot, it will be the overload that is shutting it off/down.

Sometimes it runs for about ten seconds with a normal sound, then buzzes, then shuts off. Wonder if the rubber mallet trick I have read about would help...we are desperate! No money for new unit and credit too maxed out

this is the last Frigidaire I will buy!
Most come out of the same Made in China factory no matter what brand name is on it :(

...thanks for that! Is there a brand that you would recommend that we could save for, that might cost more, but would be more reliable?
