Hi all, I'm having a problem with a Door lock on a front loading Frigidaire Gallery Washer. I ran a cycle as usual and once it was done the lock stays locked and will not unlatch for any reason.

I've re-run the cycle. Run a different cycle, unplugged, etc etc etc. I've tried everything I know to try. Not sure what to do next.

The unit is maybe.... 15? years old?? I'm not really sure. It belongs to my landlord. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

It belongs to my landlord
Get permission first.

once it was done the lock stays locked and will not unlatch for any reason
Does the lock light go out?
Many times we have to yank and break the door open....and then get the model# and replace any parts we broke.

Oh, that's unfortunate. The light does go out. There's no other way to get in than breakage? I share the house landlord who's out of town at the moment, but she's been informed.

I was able to use a pry bar, wrapped in a towel to pop it open. I pushed the bar as far back in as I could and applied some pressure. This caused enough flexion to release the latch.

Nothing broke, but it did open. Maybe this will help somebody in the future.

Did you get the model# now that the door is open?

The catch part does appear to be ok.
Normally speaking we replace the lock/latch part when the door will not open or unlock properly.

Door Lock/switch Assy

There is also a video at the link above on how to replace it.
