Front Load Washers cracking tile floor

My mom wishes to buy a front load washer and dryer, but she has been told that if she places them on the first floor where there is tiling (instead of cement in the basement) that they could crack the floor. Since the machines vibrate and are heavy they do a number on the floor. Has anyone had this problem?

My husband thinks she should put down the heavy duty gym mats that professional gyms use to absorb the vibrations and not damage the floor. Any input by anyone? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before my mom makes a big purchase on them.

Thanks

Hi,

Thats a very good question, I live here in Oregon and see lots of Front load washers on tile , never have seen a issue where it has cracked or damaged the tile.

Here is a Floor Tray that i see some people use, it seems to work great just for added protection and it catches spill overs and splashes as well.:3:
