2004 Lennox HE furnace (92%), merit line.

The exhaust fan broke last year, and I replaced it myself. The replacement has started to make noise now also, but it is still working so far. I had a guy come take a look today and he did gas readings and says it is not operating in spec. He suspects a problem with the secondary heat exchanger (I don't remember exactly what he said). But he said repairing it would be about 7 hour job (over $2k), and since it's about 15 years old economy model, replacing the furnace would be his recommendation.

Looking at a 96%, two-stage, with ECM blower (one of the UTC brands).

I am looking for comments on the diagnosis and/or the choice in replacement?

Got second opinion. But got the same story, it should be replaced.

Option 1 - Day and Night; Constant Comfort Deluxe 96.
Option 2 - Lennox Elite 96.

Lennox is more expensive, but maybe more reputable(?).

I'd go with Day and Night. They are popular here in my area and very reliable.

And here in my area summer temps daily are 100 to 109 degrees, then we two weeks at 110 to 120 degrees, and they never miss a beat.:)

Thanks Jake. I am in the opposite side of the country where it gets very cold, and this is a furnace. The existing AC will remain. Where I am we use heat from probably October until May, and it's below freezing temps about 4 of those months, and we can count on a few mornings in January hit -20F each year. We use the heat like you use the AC I'm sure! its 90,000 BTU.

Anyway, not sure if furnace vs AC make a difference in opinions.
