GB2FHDXWQ01 Whirlpool Refrigerator - Freezer ice machine pump constantly runs but arm is broke

I am having an issue with 12 year old Whirlpool refrigerator (w/bottom freezer) - Model #GB2FHDXWQ01. The ice maker on it was never connected. And the freezer arm (used to shut on/off the ice being dropped into the ice tray) was always to the OFF position. This arm, however was broken a few weeks ago and now I hear the freezer ice maker engine kick in ever so often. Does anyone know if there's a way to turn off the ice making ability (so the pump will stop kicking on) given that the arm is now broke? Thanks for any suggestions.

There are several options: Fix the arm, just unplug the icemaker and/or totally remove the icemaker and gain 2 cu.ft more space in the freezer.

You can see a video of unplugging its cable at the following link. It may not be exact to your model but will hopefully give you an idea how to go about it.
