Hello ,
i am new here and was hoping to get assistance on my single top door Whirlpool GB2SHDXTS01 bottom freezer refrigerator. The freezer gets cold but does not freeze food.

It was working before we switched off the refrigerator to clean the refrigerator. After turning it back on, the freezer has NOT gotten cold enough to freeze food.

I thought to set the temperature control to 4 on both the refrigerator and freezer and later increased just the freezer to 7 (the max) , while keeping the refrigerator at 4.
Its been on this temperature setting of 7 and 4 for 2 days however the freezer does not appear to get cold enough to freeze.

Any help with troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Sounds like one of the fans quit working. Make sure the evaporator fan motor in the freezer section is working and the condenser fan motor by the compressor is working. That style condensor fan motor fails alot so check that first.

Thank you for your response.

Could you help me figure our how to check if the evaporator fan and condenser fan is working ?

Thank you again !!

OK, whenever the compressor is running the fans should also be running. Slide the machine away from the wall and remove the cover over the machine compartment. The fan motor next to the compressor should be running if the compressor is running. Put your hand on top of the compressor and feel for the vibration. The evaporator fan motor is located behind the back wall in the freezer section. Open the freezer door. You should be able to hear the fan motor working. You might need to hold the door switch in.

Yes, I agree with Rick.

Here's the parts diagram for your model: Parts for Whirlpool GB2SHDXTS01: Unit Parts

Check for a foreign object stuck/jammed on the condenser fan blade first.

#2 is the condenser motor fan blade

#24 is the condenser motor

Thank you Rick ! That was helpful. I am going to open the machine compartment with the help of my husband on Monday and take the steps to diagnose.

Here is what I did in the meantime......
I opened the freezer drawer & while still open I took a piece of tissue paper and held it by the vents of the evaporator fan(if i identified it correctly?) and the tissue paper was blowing. So it appears the evaporator fan is working ? Am I correct ?

Will get back to you Monday to update you on my findings after I open the machine compartment.

Thank you Jake. I appreciate the diagram. I am going to work on removing the cover over the machine compartment like Rick suggested. The diagram will be a great help.
I love learning and fixing things, so this will be a great help as its my first time at a refrigerator .

Sounds like a plan, keep us posted.:)

Just want to say ...I have not forgotten to get back....
Family is sick ....so have not gotten down to my project.
I did have someone who happened by our place who claimed they knew a bit about refrigerators and opened the freezer and confirmed the evaporator fan is working. He put his ear to the rear and said the condenser fan appeared to be working too.
Will keep you posted on my findings .... hopefully over the weekend.
