More issue with this dishwasher…
long story-I’ve been here in the past and got some awesome tech support (So much I have donated). I have been away from my home the past 2 years (Army mission). only been home 5 times for a period of 3 days in last 2 years. Since coming home, I noticed dishwasher was not drying dishes. It would run but dishes were wet. Some searching led me to believe it was the float valve. I replaced float valve and it fixed it. Now, a new issue has come up. I put dishes and soap in last night and started. It ran, time counted down….and I went to bed. This morning all the lights were on like it was ready to run. I opened door, dishes were clean. I started to become concerned, so I thought I should re run it. When I hit “start”, it sits for 5 seconds then beeps three times (it’s the sound our GE refrigerator makes when you leave the door open).

any advice what to check? Nothing I do can make it start. I have shut off breaker for 10 minutes, turned back on and nothing.

edit: now I hit start, nothing happens, no beeps and then it time outs and all lights go off.

thank you!
Leon

Hi Leon, Thank you for your service!

Lets first--->Check the machine control board STATUS LED (its located underneath the front on the dishwasher). Tell us how many times its flashing in a row, or if its STEADY ON or STEADY OFF.

Here's the machine control board(under the dishwasher) for your model: WD21X24900C

To view the STATUS LED, remove the lower access panel of your dishwasher. You DO NOT have remove the control board from its metal casing when you view the STATUS LED.

When you have that panel lowered down turn the breaker back ON to your dishwasher. When viewing it leave all the electrical connectors to it plugged in.

Jake, thanks again for response!
this morning, I lowered control board with all electrical connection connected and the status led is OFF.

memories of the problems I’ve had with this DW led me to check this….

with plug J722 unplugged from board, I am NOT getting any DC voltage from pins #2&#5. I did in a previous repair get 14VDC. I’m using the same fluke DVM and probes…I question if my probes are reaching the metal. Good news (I think) is if I don’t have 13.5VDC , I replace the control board which is an easy fix.

Yes, If you are getting 120 volts to the machine control board(under the dishwasher) and the STATUS LED is STEADY OFF, that means the machine control board is the culprit.

And since you are ALSO not getting 13.5 to 14 volts DC from J722 pins 2 and 5, that also confirms the the machine control board(under the dishwasher) is bad.

Let us know how it goes after you replace it.

Jake,

USPS has screwed up 2 package deliveries this week! It may be because we are “back” in our home…not sure. I’ll update status of repair as soon as I get part. Amazon says it was left in our mailbox.

question, I’ve had at least 4 issues with this model since I purchased it new in 2016. Is this common these days? We plan on selling and relocating in 2 years. I may be forced to purchase a new dishwasher (in slate).

Thanks!

With GE dishwashers, yes.

GE used to make good appliances, in the 70's and 80's. But unfortunately those days are long gone.

Jake,
The new control board fixed the problem (well, it’s running…I haven’t verified the heat/dry cycle works). I think in the past I purchased a new board but found out the old one was good so I returned it.
Thanks again! Side note, good friend of mine mentioned he purchased a new kenmore elite dishwasher years ago when they were going out of business. He bought it because he thought his present one was broke. Turns out it was a simple door part…and he couldn’t return the kenmore unit. He offered to sell it to me. If this GE craps out on me 1 more time…I’m taking him up on his offer!

on this GE DW I’ve replaced the UI (user interface), the heating element/gaskets, flood switch, and now the main board (new summer 2016, first repairs Dec 2019-present).

Yes, we had 2 Sears Hometown Stores in my area and both have closed as of last year.

I’m reading all these threads, and have a similar presentation except my control board has a steady ON green LED.

What can I try next?

Previous repair I did to this dishwasher had me check for LED (mine was in too). Check my previous posts…I had to previously test/replace IU board. This involves taking off door and replacing board that have the start/stop/ cycle buttons.

Not trying to step on Jakes toes…but if you have a DVM and read my (and others about this model), you may have a fix!

Best of luck!

Do you have the exact same model number as @Leondreed GDF620HMJ2ES Read it from the model number tag inside the door on the tub frame.

If you have the exact same model number, the STATUS LED being on STEADY on the machine control board(underneath the dishwasher) usually indicates the UI Board is the culprit.

Here's the UI Board for your model: WD21X31902 There is a video in the part link that shows you how to replace it.

Let us know how it goes after you replace the UI Board.

If you want to verify that, I explain how to do that in this thread post:
