trying to help a neighbour (Leanna) on an island here. (I have sung your praises as appliance repair gods)

1. she was running her dryer when a lightening storm hit.
(apparently in recent months the humidity sensor that shuts the dryer off when X Dry was not working so they had to turn it off themselves, or it would just keep running. but I expect that is unrelated to the current Won't Start problem)
2. power went off.
3. when the power came back on, Leanna apparently touched the ON button and it very briefly powered On but then immediately shut off.
4. and will not now power back on.

suspecting the thermal fuse we took it apart but there appear to be two thermal fuses.
I disconnected the leads from both and Ohms tested them, but they both seem to be good.

as this is an island in the middle of nowhere, it is very difficult to arrange a service call (even if I didn't want to DIY it. Which of course, I do)
So, where do we go next?

Hi Peter,

GTD40EBMK0WW is not pulling up as good, take a photo of the model number tag on the dryer and upload it.

Thanks BB! I don't see a fuse in the schematic diagram.

Also GDT40EBMK0WW is a Canadian Only model number, no sites are letting that model number pull up any parts list.

Unplug the dryer and ohm test the door switch and ohm test the push-to-start switch and ohm test the idler pulley switch(aka broken belt switch).

If all those ohm test good, then its the probably a bad timer and you'd need to get the new timer locally at a appliance parts store in Canada.

thanks all. I'll get on those tests.
out of curioisity, i guess those round things I tested were thermoSTATS not thermal fuses? circled in red.
what is the function of the thermostats in a dryer? (to read the temperature I guess.?)

Those are just heat thermostats that control the heating element.
