2016 GE Dishwasher Model GDT545PGJ2BB - Serial # LG729047B

Hello There,

My 2016 GE Dishwasher is acting strangely. The dishwasher works fine, but about once an hour, without warning, the LED lights come on and a chime sounds. It’s like somebody has opened the dishwasher door. This happens when nobody is near the dishwasher or close to touching it. Then after a minute or two the LED lights turn off. Then it does it again, and again, all day long.

The dishwasher works just fine as I’ve used it several times in the last 2 weeks. I tried unplugging it, but that didn’t help. I put in a new control board about 2 years ago. This dishwasher does not get much use since it’s in a vacation property and had not been used for about 4 months prior. Not sure what's going on.

Any help or suggestions are welcome?

Regards,
Rich99

Hi Rich99,

Its the UI Board that is the culprit, seen this many times on my service calls.

Here's the user interface(UI) Board for your model:
WD21X23461 Kit Svc Ui Top Logic

Remember--->You have to set the personality jumpers on the new UI Board before you install it or it will not work, the instructions that came with the new UI Board show you how to do it.:)

This video gives you the general idea of how to replace it:

Hi Jake,

Thanks for your reply. Very helpful. I was afraid something like that might be the problem. It looks and sounds like the UI Board is more difficult to replace than the control board I replaced 2 years ago.

So here are a few follow-up “what if” questions.

I can live with the lights coming on as long as the dishwasher works. And buying and replacing the UI Board when the dishwasher works fine doesn’t sound too appealing.

What if I just put up the lights coming on live with it until it fails?
Any guesses how long it will last before the dishwasher stops working? Or maybe nobody knows how long it will last?
What if I unplug the dishwasher between uses? Will that extend the life of the UI Board? Maybe I should have been unplugging the dishwasher all along when it was not being used for extended periods. I don’t know.

Thanks again for your help,
Rich99

There should be no harm in that.

Nope, sure don't, sorry.

That's a good question, but I don't know either.

Thank you Jake for your input and expertise. I’m going to just leave it alone and see how long it lasts and cross my fingers.
