My GE dishwasher GDT635HSJ2SS is giving some issues. It starts beeping sometimes when I start a new cycle. The sound is same as when door is not closed properly, every though it is. Here are somethings I tried:

1. Hard Reset by pressing start and select, shows error code 815
2. Panel Breaker reset and back on after waiting for 2 mins, same beep sound
3. Checked resistance on Water Inlet Valve, multimeter shows 30 omhs. Not sure if this is enough for continuity.
4. I thought of checking control panel led, and left the breaker off for couple of hours. It showed 1 blink every 3 seconds and now the dishwasher started working again without changing anything.

This has happened earlier as well, when I left the breaker off for the night in frustration. Resetting the breaker off and on after 2-3 mins does not work. Breaker never trips during the running cycle.

What could be the issue here? I want to avoid the situation before it becomes dead.

RV

Hi RV,

So you mean the machine control board underneath the dishwasher showed 1 blink every 3 seconds?

Here's the machine control board(under the dishwasher) for your model: WD21X24900C

Here's the service manual for your model: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XTOXM0wA0UJEuucW0deIni17sMPtDGtD/view?usp=share_link Look on page 41.

Here's the door latch switch for your model:

Door closed: 0 ohms.
Door open: infinite ohms.

Let us know what you find. Make sure you disconnect power to the dishwasher before ohm testing.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for your response.

Yes, the machine control board underneath the dishwasher showed 1 blink every 3 seconds. This is after I left the main mcb off for couple of hours. I did not checked it earlier. The dishwasher started working at this point.

Do you have a video on how to test door latch switch?

Does the 30 omhs resistance of water inlet valve sound an issue?

Here's the water inlet valve for your model:
There is a HOW TO video when you click the water inlet valve part link.

That seems too low, should be 500 to 1500 ohms.

A bad flood switch can also cause it not to fill with water.

--->Ohm your flood switch resistance with a multimeter set on 20K ohms.
the resistance across pins 3 & 5 on the flood switch should be about 11K ohms at room temp, and 1,300 ohms at 175 degrees.

These 2 circled in red are pins 3 & 5:

I couldn't locate one.

But if the dishwasher is working fine after you reset the breaker, then the water inlet valve and flood switch should be good if its filling with water then washing.

The problem sounds more like the machine control board acting up.

So it happened again today. Started working couple of hours after breaker reset.

When it started beeping, I went into consumer error mode. The led were flashing, meaning the controller interpreted door as open. Then the start led was on. As per manuel, it means Communication failure - User Interface control unable to communicate with machine control.

Does the problem still sound with machine control board as everything works after breaker reset?

Which current model is similar to this to get an idea for new model vs repairing this one? Current one seems to be from 2016 or earlier. I am in Canada and replacing board will cost around 300 bucks.

When the door was closed was the LED's at the top of the dishwasher door solid on and not blinking?

Yes, if the door switch is good, then its the machine control board.

RepairClinic ships to Canada: https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Control-Board/WD21X24900C/4975957 but its currently out of stock.

Whirlpool Dishwashers are similar.
