Hey all. I've went through some different posts here but haven't found anyone with mine for the ones I looked at.
I'm having the common issue where the dishwasher won't start and it beeps 3 times.
I completed the test of holding start & cycle for 10 seconds. All LEDs still flash even when closed and it says "850".
So I can assume the system thinks/knows the door is not properly latched.
Here's my question:
Is there anyway to tell if it's a control panel communication error vs the latch actually needing to be replaced?
My latch has always wiggled quite a lot; I'm not sure if it's supposed to.

I'd hate to buy a new latch and go through the hassle of disconnecting everything, pulling out the washer, replacing the latch, only to find out it was a computer issue.

Thanks!

Check the door switches for continuity by opening and closing the door. On the main board, connector J711 pin 1 - 2 and pins 1 - 3

The door closing is hard to tell, it's no different than any other time.

Could explain in non-contractor terms what you want me to check with the main boards? Are you saying make sure not loose?

Set your meter to measure resistance, on the lowest ohms scale. Disconnect the J711 connector from the main board. Pins 1-2 and pins 1-3 are the door switches (in the connector). Check if the door switch is open or closed by opening and closing the door.

Again.. ?
My meter? What meter? I'm sure I don't have what
I'm not trying to sound stupid but I'm talking basic homeowner stuff. It's over my and my husband's head.
Maybe I need to call for service.

Without a meter to test components, it turns into replacing parts hoping one will fix it. That way will get very expensive, very fast. If you plan on doing any appliance repairs or other repairs in the future, a DMM (DigitalMultiMeter) is a must. They're not expensive ($10-up) and easy to learn. (takes about 30 minutes). It pays for itself the first time you use it. They're available at any if the home centers or Walmart. You can get a good one for about $20.
