Hello!

I bought the above model dishwasher about 1.5 to 2 years ago. It worked well for about the first year. Since then, i have had periods where I will attempt to start a cycle only for it to not do so and all lights will begin to flash and display with show 888. I have placed the machine in CEM which will show 371 and 61?? I have never been able to figure out what these mean (possibly software version?).

I have also placed the machine in service mode and ran through all 8 tests. I have found guides out there that show what tests 1-5 are but I'm unsure what 6, 7, and 8 are. Weirdly, I have ran through these tests one by one several times in the past, sometimes after doing so I can get the dishwasher to run a load (or even multiple for a couple weeks). At other times, going through all the tests has not done anything and it will still not work.

I'll admit, I have not looked at the LED on the CSM for further diagnosing but plan to today after work. I just wanted to get a head start on any possible thoughts on what could be the issue. Or, if there is a tech data sheet out there for my model that shows what all the service tests, error codes mean, flow sheet of troubleshooting, etc. it would be much appreciated!

Thank you for the reply! I guess it must be the heater? The ONLY time i have noticed the CSM trip is when i hit start on a normal cycle. It will complete 1-8 tests without tripping. I have taken out the heating element and inspected it. I do not see anything wrong with it.

I have also undone the grounding wire as @Jake suggested trying here:

Additionally, I have removed both heating element wires as was mentioned by someone here:

Unfortunately none of these methods have worked. I do not have a multimeter so I suppose I might have to get one. Thanks for all your help. Let me know if you have any other ideas!

Thanks bigbuck!

No water leak? I'd get a flashlight or droplight and look underneath the dishwasher for a water leak, that would make the CSM trip.

Also page 48 of the service manual as @bigbuck posted above:

Here's the flowchart of CSM trips:

If it only trips in a normal cycle, does it trip when the water flows into the machine? Or after the water is in the machine and the wash motor starts up?

If the latter, then the flowchart says to replace the wash(circulation) motor.

The Wash Motor(aka Circulation Pump) assembly for your model:

Hey Jake, I really appreciate you replying on the holiday. Please do not feel obligated to do so!

So all I do is set it on a normal cycle hit start, and shut the door. About 2 seconds later, I hear a click (which I assume is the CSM) followerd by all the lights flashing 888. This happens every time. It doesn’t even have a chance to fill with water or anything. So I feel like the machine is doing some sort of precheck before starting? Would you agree? Again, this is immediately after hitting the start button. Nothing even sounds like it’s starting up. Completely quiet for 2 seconds…..then click/trip. Lastly, I have looked underneath for leaking a couple times over the months and did so yesterday while running some tests but will do so again just to make 100% sure.

Based off the flowchart, if it trips immediately after starting, this would mean there’s an issue with the heating element? Would this make sense even if I removed it and tried to run it without it?

I did pull out the main control to check on the service led with each test. All mine does is blink once every second or 2 (and also does so when not in service mode etc). I feel like I read somewhere on here or in the manual y’all attached that the service LED is not used to help diagnosing issues in newer models? Correct me if I’m wrong. I will take a video of the issue once I’m home.

That is correct, LED STATUS on the square boards should be flashing at all times, that means its good.

This is a very odd problem, not sure what else to suggest except to contact GE at 1-800-432-2737 to have a GE tech. come out to see what's going on.
