Hello, my ~ 5 year old GE Dishwasher GDT655SSJ0SS started to randomly beep when it was not on over the past few months. Fast forward to last night and now there are no lights on the control panel at all. From my research, it seems like it's a bad UI board. Is there a way to confirm it's a bad UI board before I purchase a new one?

Hi,

Yes, when the dishwasher does random waking up/beeping/or trying start issues on its own occurs, the problem is your UI Board.

Here's the UI(user interface) Board for your model you can order: WD21X23462 Kit Svc Ui Top Logic

"NOTE--->When replacing UI control boards, the new UI Board MUST be configured as per the instructions included with the replacement. If the personality is not set by using the 4 jumpers, the buttons, LED’s or cycles will not function properly"

Here's the service manual instructions for your exact model:

You will need to remove the whole door, then separate the door, then remove the front control console, to replace the UI Board.

If you want to verify it, You will need a multimeter to check for 13.5 Volts DC.

Just remove your lower bottom access panel:

Then restore power--->The UI operational voltage is output from the main control board on connector J722 pin 2 black/green to pin 5 yellow/blue. If 13.5 Volts DC is found here, then the UI Board is the problem.

Connector J722 is located on the metal casing side of the main control board.

It's the one on the left above the ethernet port.

Thanks Jake. I measured 12 volts DC. Is that close enough to 13.5 volts DC to verify that my UI board is bad? All my symptoms (random beeping for months and now no lights at all on the control panel) still point to a bad UI board.

Usually it should be 13.5 volts DC to 14 volts DC.

Check your meter batteries and volt test it again.

Make sure all the electrical connectors are hooked up to the control board.

ALSO--->Check the STATUS LED on the machine control for a flash pattern, or STEADY ON/STEADY OFF LED. Make sure you keep all the connections to the control board plugged into it while viewing that STATUS LED.

The status light on the machine control was “steady on”.

STEADY ON also indicates its the UI Board that is the culprit.
