• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

Yesterday the wife was boiling a pot of water for cooking noodles for spaghetti, when she yelled for me. When I got in the kitchen I noticed the microwave was making some weird noises and it wouldn't shut off. Fortunately, opening the door would shut it off. But as soon as I would close it, it would start back up, and actually continue cooking. So, I unplugged the unit from the wall, waited a few minutes, then plugged it back in to see if maybe it was just a fluke. As soon as I plugged it back in, the display showed gibberish, like it was basically signaling all the LEDs to display at the same time, and the unit would automatically begin cooking - actually cooking/heating. I could clear the screen by pressing the Clear/Stop button, and set the clock, as well as enter a time to cook and it would actually count down, BUT, when it reached 0, and said -End-, it would just continue cooking.

Also, I noticed whenever I would click the slow fan, high fan or light buttons, they would work, but it would make a loud fast like clicking noise, with the light making the loudest. I'm pretty sure the noises were coming from the relays for these 3 items. Occasionally, the high fan would not actually come on, just make the noise, but I noticed if I pressed down slightly on the relay for the high fan it would run.

I figured the vapors from the boiling water were the culprit, even though the pot was on the left back side burner, opposite side from the control panel of the microwave. I can deal with the loud noises when using the fan and/or switching on the surface light, but it's too dangerous having the microwave continuously running/cooking. I mean the wife had already forgot about, and started warming up some leftovers and then went to take a shower. Luckily, I happened to come in the kitchen and notice it was still running after I heard it beeping that the timer had expired. Thankfully the beeping continued so it got my attention.

Anyway, any suggestions, especially for the continuous cooking, and the automatic cooking even after removing power and plugging it back in? Because of this automatic cooking after applying power, I don't think it could be one of the door switches, though I would love to hear from someone more knowledgeable in this area. I have my multimeter ready!

Thank you
Mike

The only thing that stands out to me on the board is this small area of light discoloration. I have provided a picture of it from the back and front of the board. Not sure how I would test those. Would I have to remove them to test them? The components from the top of the board look fine to me, but I'm no expert. Also added a picture of the 3 relays for the Vent1, Vent2, and Lamp1 that are making a loud racket when enabled, though otherwise working properly.

Rick @rickgburton has been out sick since Jan.12th with a serious illness, we are hoping and praying for a speedy recovery! He is very good with microwaves and I am not unfortunately.

Hopefully another tech. or member that's good with microwaves can shed some light on this for you.

Yes, that board does look discolored, unfortunately its no longer available: Smartboard Exchange WB27X1045
