• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

GE Microwave JVM3160DF2WW about 7 years old- surface light won't turn off unless I unplug. Electrician said just to get new unit. Hate that approach but may make sense. Anyone have this issue or any ideas about repair? OR which new model would be compatible if I simply buy new? THANKS!

It is likely a failed triac on the main control board. At 7 years, it may be prudent to replace. The current model is around $230 at most appliance stores. It is the jvm3160rf8ww looks identical but made by Lg… a better microwave in my opinion.
