This GE profile refrigerator leaks water from the bottom edge of the freezer box (see PDF drawing). It is not a constant flow, it happens 1 to 3 times per day and leaks about 3-4 tablespoons of water. Water flows around the caster and at the corner. It might be condensation, I already replaced the freezer gasket. Water is not coming from the gasket area’ it appears to be coming from behind the metal plate.

I have removed the back evaporator cover in the freezer section and cleared the evaporator tray drain area of ice, the drain was not blocked but there was ice on either side of the drain. I poured hot water down the drain to make sure there was no ice, during the pour no water leaked from the front.

Maybe the drain connection at the evaporator tray might be compromised. Water could flow behind and underneath the freezer boxes plastic insert. I am not sure how to check this drain joint. A few questions to the forum:

  1. Does anyone have an idea where the source of this leak might be?
  2. Does anyone know how drain tube connects to the evaporator tray?
  3. Could this be condensation?
  4. Are there heaters under the freezer box stiles & rails?
Thank you for your support..

When you did that did ALL the water go into the drain pan?

Here's the drain line tube for your model:
Asm drain line

If ALL the water went into the drain pan and no water came to the front where its leaking, then it MUST BE condensation.

Jake,
Thank you for the response. All the water as far as I can tell went into the drain pan. Therefore, as you say this is condensation. Why is that corner getting so cold that water is condensing there? Does this frig have rail & stile heaters? I am not sure what steps to take at this point to solve this problem. Any ideas?

That is a good question, but I don't know, unless the insulation deteriorated at that corner over the years.

Does this frig have rail & stile heaters?
Not that I'm aware of, most all refrigerators have YODER LOOPS that go through the cabinet to keep it warm to prevent condensation, especially in between the refrigerator and freezer door middle mullion panel, but if you had a leak in that, the freezer and refrigerator sections would stop cooling.

I am not sure what steps to take at this point to solve this problem. Any ideas?
That I don't know either, since there is no way to access it inside the cabinet.

Just a quick note to let the forum know that I fixed this leak. Finally got around totaking the unit apart and discovered 1/2" of ice in the upper fridge box. Pulling the back cover off revealed a totally blocked (frozen) evaporator drain. Cleaned out and the leaking has stopped.

Ok, because I thought you already checked that per what you said in your first post:

No worries, at least you found where the leak was coming from and fixed it.(y)

Thanks for the update!
