PVD28BYNBFS
Brand
GE
Age
1-5 years
2 yr old GE Profile Side by Side PVD28BYNBFS stopped making ice. Water dispenser works and was leaking out of dispenser when I noticed no ice. Temp in ice compartment is currently 43.5 Fahrenheit. Tray does not fill w/ water.
Also, temp in freezer dropped to where items were thawing. Fan then seemed louder than usual and temp in freezer normalized. Settings are 37/0.
Tried unplugging/plugging back in, cleaning coils (which weren’t too dusty), re-installing water filter and replaced isolation water valve in rear.
Ideas?

Feel a cold draft from ice box port on left wall of refrigerator. Thermometer stuck in ice box port reads 14 degrees F. Still warmer in ice maker compartment, though (34-45 F)

So, I assume ice box fan is working.

I couldn't locate the tech data sheet or service manual for this model, I can ask @bigbuck if he has it. Without that we are dead in the water unfortunately, because this is a newer design I've not worked on as of yet.

Wait, I located a thread with your same model here:

Here's the ice box fan for your model:

Also make sure the freezer evaporator fan motor is running: Freezer Evaporator Fan W/ Foam WR60X32088

I located the service manual. On top of fridge, at front, under a an approx. 22” long panel.

Multiple fault codes displayed. They ranged from today to 163 days ago. The ones that match up to when the ice maker stopped working were “03 04”, “03 16”, “07 17”, “07 18”

Ran tests on the fans. Ice box fan result was unique in that only “00” flashed. Others displayed a series of codes.
Ice maker full cycle test displayed “01”. Ice maker water valve test had result of a hum w/ no display.

What do u think?

Also, the result on the diagnostic test on the ice maker heater was 73. Comments in service manual say the heater “stops at 50”.

And result for “FF Icemaker Body Thermistor Test” was 72.

It should have detailed descriptions of what to check when you see those error codes, did you do them?

OK, see that chart now, duh.
15 fault codes total, including FZ door being open for too long which explains items thawing.

3 icemaker codes: “harvest extended >10 mins”, “harvest not completed after 30 mins” (both last occurred 29 days ago), and ”continues to sense bucket full after ice dispense“ (last occurred 129 days ago)

There is an ice box fan fault- “ice box fan feedback missing when fan is running”, which occurred 2X, last time being yesterday.
And a few AutoFill faults which I assume are irrelevant.

Re: the ice box fan fault, does it mean ice box fan is faulty because it’s not receiving feedback, or feedback is not being sent, and thus, the issue is not the fan?

The fault code chart does not state resolutions, only “comments”, like those I referred to in my last post.

The ice box fan is possibly faulty.

Look here:

Well, it wasn’t the ice box fan. Replaced it yesterday- no ice today (thanks bigbuck, instructions were helpful).

Same error codes as previous. Still, the only fan error code is “ice box fan feedback missing when fan is running”.
Ran all five fan tests. While I could hear the FF fan, FZ fan and Condenser fans running during test, the ice box fan was silent w/ “00” flashing and Convertible Drawer fan also silent w/ “01” displayed, no flashing.

‘Error codes under “Sealed System” heading are: “FZ temp exceeded“ and “3-way valve cooling not detected in FZ evaporator”, both last occurring about when IM stopped making ice.

Error codes under “Ice Maker” heading are: “FF IM harvest time extended > 10 mins”, “FF IM harvest time not completed after 30 mins”, both last occurring 44 days ago and “FF IM continues to sense bucket full after ice dispense”, last occurring 136 days ago. Performed an “Icemaker Full Cycle Test”- could hear IM running during test w/ “01” displayed (no flashing).

Lastly, “External Interaction” codes dealing w/ AutoFill and doors left open.

Its possibly a main control board problem then.

Here's the main control board for your model, if needed: Refrigerator Main Control Board WR55X42465

Did you do the voltage test on the main control board for that ice maker fan motor that bigbuck posted?

Main Board
• J8 pin 1 (black) to J8 pin 4 (red): 12.5 VDC
• J8 pin 1 (black) to J4 pin 1 (yellow): 2 to 4 VDC*
• J8 pin 1 (black) to J4 pin 2 (white): 2 to 3 VDC*
*NOTE: (Voltage dependent on fan speed when fan is on, will be 0 VDC when fan is of).
