I have 2 issues occurring with my unit that started at the same time.

1st issue:
As I began a second load of laundry, the drum filled with water as usual, I added soap and once it was full added the clothes so as not to overfill or unbalance.

But then when I closed the lid, cute washer did not begin to agitate.

I tried to turn the knob to spin, nothing.

Tried to restart, and end, the drum did not drain or move.

I let it sit for a while to see if it would eventually drain. It did not, however, when I moved it to rinse, it drained, began the rinse and then spin, and the lid locks as expected when spin begins.

2nd issue:
When it began to spin, it shook heavily, hitting the front plate over and over.

Troubleshooting:
  • Both of these issues occur with and without clothes in the drum.
  • If set to wash, the time does not move without agitating
  • In removing the agitator pieces within the drum, nothing appears to be broken, loose

When I took off the front panel - there are no obvious issues,
  • does not seem to be broken suspensions (perhaps a little springier than they once were)
  • I can observe the lid lock mechanism take place when spin begins
  • Belt moves, (only during spin of course)
  • Drum does move a little more freely back and forth than it seems it should

This machine is made by Frigidaire for GE. For one it has as small separate drain pump that gets rid of the water before it spins. It is not suppose to spin with a tub full of water. Model number is incomplete! Could be bad timer, but you are the one that has figure that out! Post complete model number and I maybe able to give you a tech sheet. Here is the Frigidaire version of the service manual. GE will not have a service manual only a tech sheet! https://applianceassistant.com/ServiceManuals/488_3.pdf

As far as I can tell, the model number is complete - per this attachment.

I’m not sure what to do with a service manual or a tech sheet - looking for advice on fixing the issue.

That model number is missing a digit. The only place the complete model number will be found is on the appliance's model and serial number tag. Not on literature or the bill of sale.

You can find tips for locating the model and serial number identification tag on your appliances at the following link:

That's not how it is suppose to be used. Doing so would usually create an overfill condition.

when I closed the lid, washer did not begin to agitate.

I would suggest someone actually check the functioning of the lid switch and its actuator.

When it began to spin, it shook heavily, hitting the front plate over and over.

That could have damaged the lid switch
