Happy Holidays!

New issue with our GE Washer GTW330SK2WW:

Squeaks while agitating only Christmas Eve of course:
Pumps seems fine, no noise while emptying the drum
Pulled the agitator out hoping something was under it
Spin seems fine with no odd noises
I saw this thread, I believe I'll try the belt after the holiday, I saw this post:

While I was trying to correct other issues a while back, I replaced the belt about 6 months ago

Thank you for any other possible sugestions for a fix!

Unfortunately the belt looks good, could it be the tub bearing making this terrible noise only during the agitation cycle? If you listen to the video it sounds more like metal to metal screeching. I could't find any videos for the tub bearing replacement - must be a difficult repair. If I search for the tub bearing on appliance repair.com I see a platform bearing retainer.....
We have not run this machine since it started making this noise, do you think it would be ok to do a load or two of wash?

I found this video on the replacement of the transmission and it looks very similar to our machine. In the comments someone stated if it makes noise only while agitating its probably the clutch. Replacing the trans in this manner looks pretty straight forward. Any thoughts?

Yes, I agree, the transmission(aka Platform Bearing Retainer & Fasteners) is the likely problem: Platform Bearing Retainer & Fasteners WH03X33729

I haven't replaced the transmission on this model before, so its best to go by that video.:)

Unplug the machine first!

Ordered the trans & belt from Appliance Parts Pros and they provided a tracking number for tomorrow, my fingers are crossed with the snow!

Thanks Jake for taking your valuable time and providing the answers we need!

Ok, sounds good. Glad to help, let us know how it goes.

Success, no more grinding/squeaking noise with the new trans & belt (didn’t really need the belt). Ran one load with no noise or errors!
That install video above was spot on.

Excellent @ruster glad to hear that the new transmission fixed it.(y)

Thanks for the update!

Jake,
Don’t know if this is possible, but since I installed the gear box we have done several loads of wash with no errors coming up and the wash comes out with out needing a second spin. I have been clearing the error codes for six or more months after each load & about every other load was soaking wet. I wonder if the old gearbox was the problem you tried to resolve for us a while back. I’ll update this if I see a change in the future, for now we are very pleased with this washer once again! I read somewhere that a motor overload can cause a spin error, which is always what we had. I was resisting replacing the motor up until it started making those terrible sounds, then I had to replace the gearbox

Yes, that is quite possible. Glad its working good again with the new transmission.:)

Yes, I understand what you mean, hopefully your original motor will last for years to come.:)
