Hi,

We just bought a new GE fridge and my partner is complaining about the noise when it turns on. I pulled it away from the wall and removed the bottom cover to be-able to listen closely. I found that most of the noise is coming from (what I believe to be) the compressor. When I put my ear next to the fan it is actually relatively quiet.

Would it be possible to wrap this in sound dampening material?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

No, you can't wrap the compressor with sound dampening material, it will make your compressor overheat and not cool properly and void your warranty.

How loud are we talking about?

Make a video then upload the video to Youtube and post the Youtube link here. Or share your video per Google Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft OneDrive and post the share link here.

Hi Jake,

Gotcha. I don't want to do that! I'm not exactly sure but I just started an exchange with lowes after your comment. I will see if it's just this one or all of them.

Ok Chris, sounds good.

Let us know how the 2nd one does, all refrigerators will have noise to them, no getting around that.:)
