GSD6960J03SS GE Triton XL All buttons respond except Start and Normal Wash

I have a GE Triton XL Model GSD6960J03SS and the control buttons all work (beep and light up/light off) except the START and NORMAL WASH. What I've done so far is:

• power cycling the unit - did this a few times with varying duration on power off - no change
• removed the ribbon cable for the control pads and applied contact cleaner - no change
• press and hold START button to reset but guessing that because it doesn't beep or light up, the reset mode isn't able to occur

Any ideas?

Yes, usually when some of the buttons stop working, that indicates a short in your control panel touchpad assembly.
