My unit is 5 years old and last year the water filter froze and flooded my home. My home warranty company fixed it, but the ice maker stopped working 2 days ago and I found the filter was frozen again. I replaced the filter and turned water line off. I found ice in the ice maker this morning, from the water that was already in the line. I am terrified to turn the water back on! Is this a common issue?

Just the water filter is freezing? Nothing else in the refrigerator section is freezing?

When was the last time you replaced the water filter?

Also, when you bought the refrigerator brand new it came with a water filter bypass, remove the water filter and put the water filter bypass in it and see if it does the same thing.

I have to admit that I had forgotten to replace the filter, for an entire year. Nothing in refrigerator side is freezing, except the filter. My son put the new filter in yesterday and I am just scared this fridge is going to flood my home again. I will tell him to check the item you mentioned. Thanks!

I have the bypass and we will try it. I have only had this refrigerator for a year and a half. I am the 2nd owner of this home and the builder put GE appliances in all the homes. I'm not a fan of that brand. Thanks again.
