I have a stacked GE washer, Model GUD27ESSM1WW that is fairly new but was purchased used.

When I first got the unit, it would fill with water but when it went to spin it would stop after a few seconds. After reading the service manual I discovered that it had a "fault code" of 3 ("Locked Rotor Monitor"). The instructions said to:

1. Check for blockages that are preventing the motor from spinning. There were no blockages.
2. Check the harness and connectors between the control board and motor (and sensor): There were no pinches, wear points, breaks, etc. The wiring appears fine.
3. Verify the hall sensor is connected to the main harness (It was). Put the washer in Service Mode and run the spin test. It ran for a few seconds then stopped. This seemed to indicate the speed sensor was bad.

I replaced the speed sensor. All was fixed for about two washes, then it failed again with a "Locked Rotor Monitor" error. I removed the tub and most of the wiring harness to do a thorough inspection of all the connections. I found no problems. I put it back together and it ran fine!

Then I ran a second load and now I'm back where I started with a "Locked Rotor Monitor" error. Any ideas?

Sorry, I don't. I can't locate the tech. data sheet or service manual for this model, or I could tell you.

Hopefully another tech can shed some light on this. Other than that, Its best to contact GE at 1-800-432-2737 to have GE come out and see what's going on.

Look on Page 67 Does the motor spin freely? If it worked good for 2 washes after you replaced the speed sensor, and everything else checks fine, its possibly a defective speed sensor.

Here's the speed senor for your model: Speed Sensor WH12X27187

Thanks for your response. Yes, that's the error I discovered at first and what prompted me to replace the hall/speed sensor the first time. After I replaced it the washer worked for a few loads. Then it stopped again and the same error came up.

I just now cleared the error codes and replaced the entire motor assembly, along with ANOTHER hall/speed sensor. When I ran TEST 13 the unit only spun for a few seconds, then stopped. These seems to indicate that the hall/speed sensor is bad. But this is the third sensor I've had and it seems unlikely that they're all bad.

If you have any additional thoughts or ideas, I'd love to hear them. My next step may be to replace the entire control board, but that's throwing even more money at this thing and I'm starting to think GE may just make cheap units, but that may just be me being frustrated.

Thanks again.
