I recently found a Whirlpool GX5FHDXVY04 with warm fridge, and did a forced defrost, and it cooled the fridge right down fine. We surmised that the auto adapt defrost logic wasn't working, so we changed it to timed defrost by going into the settings. So far it's working fine after 4 or 5 days. I'm wondering what would keep the AI defrost from turning on defrost but the timed defrost would work fine? Anyone ever tried this fix instead of replacing the control board?

In your tech data sheet--->Service Test 9 - Defrost Adjustment
This test will allow the adjustment of the defrost interval from adaptive defrost time to a fixed defrost time.
The Refrigerator Temperature UP/+ key will toggle from (A) Adaptive to (F) Fixed, 6 hour defrost time. Default setting is Freezer displays 9 - Refrigerator displays A. For Fixed Defrost Freezer displays 9 - Refrigerator displays F

The main reason is if you live in a warm/hot humid area of the country, with frequent door openings, especially in the summer months, that FIXED DEFROST TIME works much better.
