I've got a 3 year old MVWP575GW0 washer that's having agitation issues. I get very little movement of the agitator, the basket seems to still spin just fine. A few months back it was making a slight grinding noise during agitation and we had it checked out, the repair tech said it was fine. Fast forward and now the noise stopped and the agitator barely moves. I've seen tons of YT videos attribute a worn drive hub to agitator issues, I checked and my drive hub is extremely worn and will get replaced. As a mechanical engineering kinda guy I'm just trying to figure out how this has anything to do with the agitator, the splines on the agitator look perfect and it seems rock solid when I try to spin it manually. Doesn't the drive hub connect the transmission to the basket? How would replacing it fix the agitation and why does it still spin just fine?

Can anyone un-confuse me here? Thanks.

Yes, it sounds like a bad hub. That's a good question, but yes it connects to the transmission shaft. I don't have the theory of operation for this model, so I can't answer the other question, sorry.

Here's the hub for your model:

Here's a video to access/replace it:
