I don't know if this is a real concern but I wanted to ask somebody about our Hotpoint refrigerator/freezer. The bottom refrigerator keeps temps between 33-35F sometimes gets frost on the items directly beneath air blower from freezer. But my concern is for the freezer temperatures. When the the unit runs it will take the freezer temps to below 0F to around -5/10F.

Then the unit will turn off and sit quietly. And then it will hold the temp for awhile then I can check the thermometer hanging on the rack in freezer and see it can get up to 10 or even 20F (not sure how long it stays in the range) then the fans and compressor will kick on and it will take it back down to -10F and then it cuts off and does it all again. It does this through out the day so I pretty sure its not defrosting (10 times a day).

I can see that ice in the trays (no ice maker) will looked cracked and jagged which i think is from them slightly melting then refreezing when the unit comes back on. I wanted to know if there is something I can do too keep it from getting above 10F without being in defrost. So it can run more often to keep the temperature in the freezer lower. Thank you.

Hi,

Sounds like your temperature control thermostat is malfunctioning.

Here's the temperature control thermostat for your model:
