I have an old Inglis top loading washer (maybe 15 years old) and a few months ago the pump stopped working. Everything else was working fine, but when it got to the pump cycle it just wouldnt do anything. So I replaced it with a similar Inglis washer (model #IA4200) that I had on the side, maybe a few years older. Now that one is doing the exact same thing. It washes and spins and everything, but it will not pump. I still have the first one and can confirm that the pump itself is not stuck, I can spin it by hand. Nothing is clogged, the water will still get out with the spin cycle. The electric outlet is fine at 120 volts and the ground is good. What can cause the pump to stop working in these old washers? Maybe I'm just really unlucky that 2 of them broke the same way within a few months, any ideas? Thank you.

when it got to the pump cycle it just wouldnt do anything.

What exactly do you mean by that? NO motor running either??

No motor running, nothing happening at all, no sound. Sometimes I would come back at the end of the cycle and the tub would still be full of water.

No motor running

That has nothing to do with the pump.

There are 2 things that can prevent the motor from running in drain mode, the lid switch and timer. The lid switch would also affect spinning. If it still spins (you did say, "the water will still get out with the spin cycle") the lid switch is not the problem which leaves the timer as the only possibility.

The timer for your model is part # WP3953146. A new one looks to be over $300. If you want to fix the machine you might want to consider sending the timer out for repair.

I understand there's only one motor that drives both the pump and the "shaft", so indeed that only leaves the timer which activates the pump mode. Do you have any idea what would cause timers to break down? Especially in a way that just stops the pump mode from working. Thank you for your help!

Since they're always in use, wear and tear over its lifespan.

Especially in a way that just stops the pump mode from working.

2 things can affect a timer's individual functions, a bad electrical contract or a damaged internal cam.
