Hello

I've got a Badger Insinkerator which wouldn't turn off.

The switch button was getting stuck in the down position when pressed so naturally I assumed the button was the problem and got a replacement. However I've just received the replacement and that isn't the problem - with both the new button and the old button (after cleaning it to stop it from getting stuck) the insinkerator won't turn off. If I press the button I can hear a click each time coming from the switch unit into which the control pipe is connected.

So my question is: is it likely to be the actual garbage disposal itself which is broken, or the switch system?

If it is the switch, then do I have to replace it with the same one, or are they pretty much interchangeable and I could replace it with any? Because there's a really big difference in price.

A replacement switch of the same kind costs > $100 (https://www.lowes.com/pd/InSinkErat...oaZ91zFeiYmU3XpmR_BoCPrQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

But there are many other much cheaper, though different, ones(Amazon has loads of really cheap ones by comparison, for example: https://www.amazon.com/ROMECH-Dispo...-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1)

TIA

???

The disposer wouldn't run without power so if it is running it is getting power. It is that switch mechanism that switches power to the unit to turn it on.

Logic suggests that if the unit IS running, it IS getting power, in which case that switching unit must be providing that power. If it is providing power when it shouldn't be, something is wrong with the switch unit or its installation.

I don't know how else your stated symptoms could be construed.
